ListingHive seems like a great theme!

I applied it to one of my existing sites and it looks good, but I’d really like to start from a clone of your demo site https://demo.hivepress.io/blog/

Is the demo site using a lot of other plugins? Is it possible to get a clone of the demo site in order to use that as a starting point for creating our own site?

    Many thanks in advance
    Best, Sam

Sure, it’s easier to start with the demo content, you can try following this screencast step by step https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OzyG6vhR_o The demo uses just the HivePress plugin with optional extensions, you can download the demo files here https://hivepress.io/docs/themes/listinghive/#importing-demo-content

Hi @ihor many thanks for that. I’ve got that working at https://samj5.sg-host.com/ – I notice that there is also a location based search at https://demo.hivepress.io/

Is that not included in the demo files? Or is there another step to switch it on?

If it’s another plugin that can be easily added we’d be very grateful if you could explain how to set it up as we could really use that feature in our site.

    Many thanks in advance

You can enable a location-based search with the free Geolocation extension. You can install it via your WordPress dashboard in the HivePress > Extensions section.
Please follow this tutorial step by step to enable Google Maps on your site.

Hi Serhi, thanks for that I will give it a try.

BTW, I’ve managed to customize our site https://samj5.sg-host.com/ in pretty much every way I want, but I’m having trouble making all the category images the same size (). Sometimes they come out wide, sometimes tall, and I can’t understand the relation to the image that I’m uploading. I guess I can re-edit all the category images to be exactly the same height and width, but am I missing some other setting or option?

Also, is there a simple way to change the background color rather than just setting a custom css property.

    Many thanks in advance.

Please try upliading images of at least 400x533px size, then they will be cropped to the same size. If the image size is smalled than the displayed size WordPress leaves it “as is” without cropping.

If you mean the header background color the only way to change it at the moment is via CSS, but this may require further customizations (e.g. if you set a dark background this will require inverting the text color).

Hi @ihor that’s perfect thanks – has worked as you describe. Also big thanks to @serhi as the geolocation stuff is working perfectly.

One, hopefully, final question. Is there a simple way to have it so that the “add listing” button in the top right corner of the theme is only shown when someone is logged in? Or does that require some lower level code manipulation?

    Many thanks in advance

You can try using this one:

    body:not(.logged-in) .hp-menu__item--listing-submit {display:none}

But this button already prompts users to register (this is the first step of the listing submission process).

thanks that has worked really well @ihor the site is all live at westlondon-musictutors.co.uk/

Couple of other minor questions, sorry! 🙂

    1) do the keywords in the search do full text and categories – is there any way to adjust that?
    2) in the mobile view is there any way to make the “book a lesson” be outside the hamburger menu – I guess another conditional css statment?

    1. Yes, by default the listing titles, categories and descriptions are searchable by keywords. You can also mark custom attributes as Indexable to add them to the keyword search.

    2. If it’s a menu item added in Appearance/Menus section unfortunately there’s no easy way to move it outside, only by customizing the header template part.
