  How to trigger the modal sign in box with URL custom link in footer menu?

  you can use #user_login_modal for sign in box or #user_register_modal for register box

  Please add Custom link item to menu and put this code snippet <a href="#user_login_modal">Sign in</a> as Navigation Label (leave field URL empty)
