Restrict Social Link Ext By Categories

    Ihor,
    Is there a snippet to restrict social links by category/subcategory?. I’m want to lessen the cognitive load on users viewing a long scrolling form with so many fields. Where some of them are left blank and some with content, get too confusing to manage.

    Also, many users will not have all these social media accounts, yet they need to be there because we won’t know their preferences. Therefore giving them the ability to show/hide fields will be more visually appealing.

    And at a later time adding step-by-step progress during submission is a more intuitive process .

    Thank

    Hi,
    It’s possible with customizations, please try using a sample code snippet from this topic https://hivepress.io/support/topic/how-to-show-location-features-only-for-specific-categories/#post-14261 but for the social link attributes. If you have a developer for custom work you can send this sample snippet.
    Sorry, there’s no option to allow users to show/hide the listing attributes globally, if the attribute is assigned to the listing category (or it’s a common attribute for all listings), then the attribute field will be displayed.

    @Ihor,
    You are the custom developer 🙂 I’m not asking for attributes to be hidden globally, only on user level, similar to how its done now for lisitings. So if there’s 20 fields the user has ability to hide optional fields not the required ones. This will lessen the cognitive load for users to manage content. Can this be achieved via CSS, for example via a simple minus /plus button as show/hide?

    Sorry, there’s no simple code snippet for implementing this, this would require adding custom account settings and storing the user’s choice in the database.

    ok, about what you mentioned earlier:

    Would this snippet work in tandem with social links extension? Or are you saying it only works if you set up each link as an attribute?

    Yes, this code snippet can be used as a sample, but this required further customizations for integration with the Social Links extension.
