  is there a way for the location search to only work and show countries only, without any places or cities?

  If you need search by countries without the radius-based location you can add custom listing attribute with label “Countries” and choose option in block “Search” (for example, check “Display in the filter form” and this attribute will appear in filter form on listings page)
